A simple blackjack game coded in Java where a player faces the dealer. The dealer makes appropriate decisions as found in a real casino. It was created to practice OOP and designing a GUI (graphical user interface).

TwistLock


This was an academic project in which our team of 4 had to redesign an ostomy bag based on difficulties that an ileostomy patient was facing. She suffered from rheumatoid arthritis, lacking the strength and dexterity in her joints to use a traditional ostomy bag lock. She also needed a device that felt secure at all times with no concerns for leakage.

We proposed and designed the TwistLock, a redesigned lock which uses a twisting motion similar to a bottle cap. Rather than the conventional snap mechanism, lightly screwing in the components allows for a more suitable experience for patients with arthritis.

Components were modelled in Autodesk Inventor and 3D-printed.

Hip Implant Prototype


Based on a patient summary and x-rays, our team of 5 designed a custom hip implant. The patient had an irregularly shaped acetabulum (hip socket). This prompted us to use an elongated, avocado-shaped acetabular cup, which was the key design feature of the implant.

4 components were used: the acetabular cup, intermediate cup, inner lining, and femoral stem.
These were all modelled in Autodesk Inventor and 3D-printed.

We also created a program in Python that could calculate several metrics including the number of years until risk of fracture, stress amplitude, and minimum stem diameter. These calculations were based on patient info, implant dimensions, and proposed materials.
